PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING

An electric appliance may be classed as "portable" if connected to the mains by way of a flexible lead and plug.
Everything from TV's, PC's, fridges, printers, microwaves, hair dryers and power tools are classed as portable appliances.

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, which came into force in 1990, impose a duty on all people in the workplace (employers, employees, self employed etc.) to take precautions against risk of injury or death arising out of the use of electrical equipment.

Person(s) responsible for the safety of appliances at work who fail to conform to the requirements are liable to prosecution.

  APPROVED TESTERS

UK legislation states that the person testing the item must be a competent person.

All testers are qualified to City & Guilds 2377 inspection & testing standard.

Each appliance that passes inspection and test will be issued with its own unique ID code. This number along with the retest due date and details of the test engineer will be fixed to every appliance tested.

  TESTING SCHEDULE

The frequency of inspection and testing required will vary depending on the type of appliance, its location and its use.

Good practice suggests that annual tests afford maximum protection and compliance.

At Fire Key we set up user files and records, barcode and label all equipment and will provide you with a complete record of the results of all tests carried out, both in hard copy and disc format. We schedule all equipment re-tests for you when they are required.
